Audico designed and delivered facade lighting for Vantaan Energia’s high-temperature plant — a system that shifts automatically with the seasons.
Vantaan Energia’s high-temperature plant, completed in 2025, is a significant investment in the energy sector — one where safety, energy efficiency, and technical reliability are front and centre. The goal for the facade lighting was to combine visual impact with operational simplicity: the building’s facade comes alive through exterior luminaires with seasonal and festive themes — no daily management required.
Audico Systems handled technical specification, luminaire installation, commissioning, and programming. Lighting design was carried out by Sweco. The project demanded specialist lighting expertise as well as a practical understanding of the safety and maintenance requirements of an industrial facility. The result is an LED lighting solution built to serve the site year after year.
Themes that follow the calendar
87 StudioDue COMPACTBAR RGBW luminaires were installed on the stepped tower across nine levels. The positioning, aiming, and programming of the fixtures were carefully planned so that the scale of the tower reads clearly from every angle, and colour use remains controlled even across large surfaces.
The RGBW colour mixing technology) makes it possible to programme seasonal and festive themes directly onto the facade. The lighter tones of spring and summer, the warmer palettes of autumn, and the distinctive accents of public holidays all come together as a coherent, well-balanced whole.
Automation for impact and ease
Control was implemented using a Pharos Designer lighting controller. The system was programmed on a calendar basis, with themes switching automatically according to a pre-set schedule. Programming took into account how colours would read in the surrounding environment and the long-term reliability of the system.
Day to day, the system runs on its own. Manual override is also available when needed — for special occasions or unforeseen circumstances. The striking, adaptable facade sits naturally within the plant’s normal operations.

The facade lighting has been designed as a lasting part of the high-temperature plant. A high-quality facade lighting solution reinforces Vantaan Energia’s modern and responsible profile, and strengthens the plant’s visibility in its surroundings.
The project demonstrates that industrial lighting can be designed and programmed into a controlled, automated, and visually compelling whole — where technical reliability and aesthetic quality reinforce one another.
