Shopping Centre Kamppi upgrades its façade lighting

In spring 2024, Shopping Centre Kamppi Helsinki renewed the lighting of its glass façade. The objective was to achieve an energy-efficient and versatile solution that supports both daily operation and campaign-driven lighting. The project was delivered in cooperation with Granlund.
LED luminaires integrated into the glass façade structure

The old fluorescent system was replaced with Studio Due Slimbar luminaires. A total of 240 fixtures were installed, primarily in one-metre lengths. In three locations, half-metre versions were used due to structural constraints. A customised mounting bracket was also designed to enable fast and clean installation.

According to Designer Sanna Forsman, the project advanced from initial concept work to simulations, cost estimates and test installations, after which the schedule was aligned with the shopping centre’s daily operations. Programming was carried out late in the evenings during summer to avoid disturbing visitors.

Audico’s sales and engineering teams handled the installation and programming in close cooperation with the client. Project Manager Mika Grönberg notes that the work progressed as planned and met the customer’s expectations.

Control system and remote management

The lighting system is driven by a Pharos Controls Designer-series controller that enables scheduling and effect control. Swisson Ethernet to DMX converters ensure reliable signal distribution across different floors. The system can be programmed and maintained remotely.

A final solution that supports the centre’s operations

The new lighting enhances the appearance of the façade and reduces energy consumption. Shopping Centre Director Mari Ahonen highlights the smooth coordination of the project and the work phases carried out in cooperation with tenants.

The flexibility of the control system supports a wide range of themes and campaigns. Sales Manager Tapio Järvinen sees the solution as an example of how technology and design can be combined to meet the needs of an urban environment.
